Haddenham Pharmacy’s sexual health clinic offers the Chlamydia test.
What is Chlamydia?
Chlamydia is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the UK. You can catch or pass on Chlamydia by having unprotected sex.
Chlamydia is particularly common among sexually active teenagers and young people.
It’s recommended that you get a Chlamydia test every year or when you change sexual partners.
What are the symptoms of Chlamydia?
Most people won’t know if they have Chlamydia as symptoms can be missed.
If you develop Chlamydia symptoms, you may experience:
- Pain when urinating
- Unusual discharge
- Pain in the tummy for women or pain in the testicles for men
- For women, bleeding after sex or between periods
What does the Chlamydia test involve?
The test for Chlamydia is simple and painless, plus it’s also very reliable.
The test involves giving either a urine sample or a swab test.
- For the urine sample, you will need to collect a sample of your pee in a sample pot.
- The swab test involves gently wiping a small cotton bud on the potentially infected area. This could be inside the anus or vagina.
Men normally provide a urine sample but women usually have a swab or urine test.
Then, your urine sample and/or swab test will be sent to a laboratory for testing.
The results will be ready within around 7 to 10 days.
If the test shows you have Chlamydia, you’ll be able to start treatment.
